Bathroom Renovations

Master Bathroom

GOAL: Removed existing closet, shower stall and single vanity to then incorporate a double bowl vanity and tub for a bathing area.

DESIGN: Traditional & Classic Elegance

This space needed to be functional as well as elegant. Following along the lines of the traditional furniture in the adjoining master bedroom, the cabinetry was designed in cherry wood with a fawn finish. Italian porcelain tile in a cream and golden color with a coppery veining was used both on the wails of the tub area and set on a diagonal on the floor. This made the space appear to be larger as did the clear glass shower doors, which also allowed the tile to be much appreciated visibly.

Great attention was paid to detail in the selection of the plumbing fixtures & accessories. The fixtures were chosen in a Kohler bisquit color with a Terrestone coordinating vanity top. The faucets are in an English rope style with a French bronze finish. The coordinating accessories...mirrors, lighting, etc. were done in an antique and bronzy gold finish. The walls were done in a Venetian plaster in hues of bronze, gold and green and rubbed to a smooth finish. The swag treatment & coordinating towels are two of the many fabrics that were used in the adjacent master bedroom. The Roman fold operable shade was made from a coppery silk fabric. Artwork picked up the colors from the swag treatment.

Complete Renovation

GOAL: Replace the tub and oversized fixtures with a built-in functional shower and updated yet Old World Fixtures and Accessories. Also add a built-in closet with lighting for linens & cosmetics.

DESIGN: Contemporized Historic

A monochromatic palette was chosen in shades of grays and taupes. The only color that was introduced was in the jewel tone bottles on the shower seat and blue pot with greenery on the pewter shelf. Keeping the palette simple gave it a very interesting, yet non-busy, atmosphere with clean lines. Using the same color porcelain tile for both floor and walls and breaking it up with a contrasting listello made the space seem larger. Adding glass shower doors & mirrored bi-fold doors to the newly custom designed closet & shower area also enhanced this effect. The use of black wrought iron & pewter not only added to the old world charm, but the use of these particular elements and the style of fixtures that was chosen gave this bathroom historic appeal as well.
